Guido manages to catch up with Ciccio on the train. Ciccio doesn't want to talk, but Guido talks about when he was Ciccio's age and engages him. Back home, everyone is on tenterhooks, hoping Ciccio will come back.

Neither Guido nor Nonno Libero can sleep, so they both gravitate to the kitchen. They start getting comfortable with each other, and one way to do that is dare del tu (to use the familiar form of address).
