A Doctor in the Family is a television series that has been broadcast on RAI 1 since 1998. Ciccio Martini, a young boy, introduces us to the members of his big family.

The Martini family is getting in the car to leave for their new home in Poggio Fiorito, a residential area outside of Rome. There are some last minute items to pack as well.

Grandpa, Lele and his three kids arrive at their new house. Everyone is excited about it--everyone, that is, except Maria who would have preferred to have stayed in Rome near her friends.

The move has been difficult and Lele’s parents come by, unwillingly, to lend a hand.

Lele isn't used to the commute and arrives late at the hospital, finding a room full of patients and an angry boss.

Lele rearranges his schedule to go home and have lunch with his kids, but they're with the in-laws. Instead, he meets his new next door neighbor.

The Martini family hasn't completely settled into the new house yet, so everyone is on edge, and just getting through breakfast and out the door is a huge challenge.

At the hospital, Lele gets a visit from Sandra, a teenager he's known since she was a little girl. She's now gotten herself in big trouble and is looking for advice.

Lele starts worrying about his own daughter, and when, that same evening, she asks him to go to a birthday party he has a hard time being objective.

Maria goes to see her aunt for some heart to heart talking between women. And Martini talks to his colleagues about Sandra's pregnancy.

Lele visits Sandra's parents to tell them about her pregnancy. He has trouble getting the words out, but in the end, that's a good thing.

During Grandpa's afternoon nap, Maria goes out without telling anybody. So now everyone is worried sick that something has happened to her.

It's one in the morning, and Grandma Enrica is freaking out because Maria is still missing. They should call the police but don't have a phone. Things are bad. But then...

Lele and Alice talk about what to do about Maria, and after school, Maria has an unpleasant experience at the local pizza place, but then things change.

Lele and Sandra talk about the pregnancy and about her future. Lele and Maria have a heart to heart talk about what's been happening in the family.

The Martini family isn't getting along so well with the new housekeeper. She doesn't give them enough time for breakfast and spends too much money on supplies.

Lele is having trouble finding a housekeeper within his budget. His assistant at the hospital advises him to look for an "au pair" girl instead. A woman overhears the conversation and offers her services.

Lele's mother-in-law can't bear the idea of having a foreigner in the house taking care of the kids. As usual, she unwittingly betrays her ignorance as well as her bigotry. But privately, Lele isn't totally convinced either.

Cetinka's Polish specialty, an onion and mustard soup, doesn't go down well with the Martini family.

The shower is finally getting fixed by a plumber who's dreaming of having his own business, which makes Libero kind of nervous. And Aunt Alice is having a hard time with her boyfriend.

Some money disappears from Libero's pocket and he immediately suspects Cetinka's boyfriend. Lele doesn't think he should be accusing anyone without proof, and Libero makes a crack about old people. In order to understand the double-entendre, you need to know that a stufa is a heater and that stufare is to be a bore.

At work, Lele is preoccupied with the Cetinka problem, but then his superior gives him new things to worry about. And if that weren't enough, Grandpa Libero calls him about more missing money and more suspicions, pointing to Giacinto of course.

The mystery of Cetinka is finally getting solved, so tune in for this exciting moment. You'll even find out what it was that smelled like dead bats!

Ciccio gets what he wanted: fancy sneakers. Maria gets what she wanted: a personal appointment with her teacher. But things aren't so simple...

Ciccio gets a talking to from Lele, and there's a barbecue in the back yard with Lele's in-laws. They're somehow very impressed with the foreign housekeeper's homemade Neapolitan pizza!

This episode comes to a close with the mystery of Cetinka solved, and everyone having a good time in the backyard. Maria proudly tells her aunt Alice how she duped her teacher into spending time with her alone. Lele lectures Ciccio (who really wants to wear his new shoes) about being truthful, but we know there's someone else he should have been lecturing... In fact, right on cue, an unexpected visitor shows up!

Maria's crush on her Biology teacher is getting way out of hand, although she says she's got it under control. Meanwhile, back at the house, Giacinto is in the bathroom once again, trying to fix the leak. Cetinka joins him to see how he's doing, and from their conversation, we make some interesting new discoveries.

Ciccio and Maria are in the backyard, when Alberto shows up unexpectedly. The neighbors look on.

Lele is trying to get Annuccia to eat her lunch and Libero helps out. Uncle Giulio stops by to tell Lele he should get out more and start dating.

Lele deals with a patient who says she has trouble sleeping. Libero answers an ad from a sleep center.

Libero goes to the job interview, where his future employer throws around some words in English that Libero has no idea about. He is shown a product with a demonstration of some of its features.

Cettina is complaining about all the work she has to do and Lele is trying to come up with a plan so that family members can help out. Ciccio is trying to get something to eat for Alberto, who is in hiding.

Nilde calls her brother, Lele, wondering if Alberto had shown up there. The next-door neighbors come by with some information, but they bicker so much that it is hard for Lele and Libero to figure out what they are talking about. But somehow, Lele finally puts two and two together.

It's breakfast time in the Martini household. Lele is late but he has to deal with Alberto. Cettina and Libero have a little discussion about pillows and work.

Libero is still trying to figure out how to sell his pillows and experiments on his friend who has shown up to watch some tennis on TV. They talk about Lele and the fact that he doesn't have a girlfriend. Later, Libero goes to the Sleep Center intending to talk to the man who sold him the pillows.

Libero tries to sell his pillows to the neighbors. Giulio shows up with a surprise for Lele.

"Uncle" Giulio finally sits down for dinner, but there is a strange vibe at the table. Later, Lele goes up to bed and has a surprise waiting for him.

Alberto and his mother meet up at the breakfast table. Tensions are high, Libero tries to help out in his way, Lele needs to leave for work, but he can't leave his sister in the state she is in.

Pina takes her son Christian to see Lele, who gives him a stern talking-to. On the home front, Giulio teases Libero about getting conned in the pillow affair. Be on the lookout for the noun bidone. It means "dumpster" or "garbage can," but colloquially also refers to a "no show, a "scam," or a "piece of junk."

Nilde and Alberto try to talk, but it seems useless. Lele tells Alice about Giulio's "prank," and as they walk and talk, Lele sees something that makes him regret becoming a doctor.

Nilde, Lele, and Libero have a frank discussion about the whole situation regarding Alberto. Giulio tries to help Libero sell his pillows to Nicola.

While Giulio is in the middle of trying to make a deal on the pillows, Vanessa comes back to the Martini house in search of her glasses and meets up with people she knows and people she doesn't know.

We begin a new episode and this time the conversation at the breakfast table comes around to Maria's upcoming birthday. Lele still thinks of Maria as his little girl, so he is a bit surprised at her request.

Libero is looking for a birthday present for Maria. Giacinto, trying to be helpful, stops by with a friend who has a briefcase full of jewelry from Russia to sell. Will Libero have learned his lesson after the pillow affair?

Lele is asked by a fellow doctor to have a look at a patient who might not be telling the truth about what happened to her. Maria and Rebi are planning the guest list for the party. Cettina is listening and commenting as she works in the kitchen.

Libero is still trying to think of what to get Maria for her birthday and talks to Alice about it. At the health center, Lele talks to his colleague about Maria's party wishes. The woman who had "fallen down the stairs" comes back.

It's Cettina's day off, and nobody seems to have the time to help with the dishes, but at least, Maria and her father get some alone time.

Maria's grandparents have found a gift for her, but Libero hasn't yet. At the health center, someone told Giorgi that Laura hadn't gone to the police about the battered woman.

At the health center, Lele has to deal with an angry Mr. Corati who has come looking for his wife. Back home, Lele gives Annuccia her bath, wondering why Maria doesn't talk to him like she used to. Alice, who is there too, tries to explain it to him.

The neighbors arrive to talk about the moped they saw going into Lele's garage. Enrica doesn't back down. Later on, Libero resumes negotiations for a watch for Maria.

Alice stops by the house and is able to give some support to Maria who is really missing her mother. At the clinic, Renata and her husband meet with the doctors.

Finally, it is Maria's birthday and the grandparents bring out their gifts.

Before the party, Lele gives his daughter her birthday present. As the dancing begins, Maria and Rebi are not exactly at ease.

Giulio is still looking for a girlfriend for Lele and Alice is helping out with a list of her friends. Ciccio either has a cold or is pretending to. At the clinic, a suspicious fax arrives for Lele.

Ciccio is in bed pretending to be sick when his grandparents show up. They have a gift for him. At the clinic, a woman shows up and is examined by Mariano, but there's a problem.

Giulio takes Lele to an exhibit in order to have him meet the lady from the fax. Lele goes home only to find a new guest, not a human one.

Mariano is seriously worried about the incident in the examining room. Some people can't help but tease him, however. At home, Ciccio is still "sick," but isn't thrilled with being served soup rather than lasagna. Giulio is being an idiot as usual, teasing Lele about Irene in front of the children.

The whole family is reacting to the new situation with Irene, a possible date for Lele. Giulio is there too, putting a lot of pressure on Lele who is quite reluctant.

We discover where Alberto's favorite T-shirt is hiding. Lele is looking for any excuse not to go to Irene's house for dinner, and his parents-in-law show up in time to wonder where he is going and give him a rough time.

Lele goes to Irene's house, but neither he nor Irene is really at ease. Meanwhile, the Martini's next-door neighbor stops by to complain about the dog.

Lele and Irene aren't exactly at ease as they eat their fish dinner. Giulio has the audacity of calling Lele to find out how things are going. Back at home, Maria and Ciccio wonder about their father remarrying and what that would be like.

Lele and Irene have some awkward moments at dinner and afterwards. Giulio is back at the house with Alice, wondering how the evening went. He can't help saying inappropriate things and Alice finally gets fed up with him.

Giulio shows up early to the house to find out how things went between Lele and Irene. Lele gets teased by just about everyone about his "wild night." At the clinic, the woman who had accused Mariano of molesting her shows up again. This time it is Lele who has to deal with her.

Lele gets a surprise visit at work. Later, he discusses it with Alice. Mariano comes back to work with some baccalà, a sort of salted codfish that lots of people love, but lots of people hate.

Ciccio and Libero are watching TV when Alberto comes to ask about his tee shirt, and the doorbell rings. It's someone about the dog. Lele goes to Irene's place to talk to her.

It's dinner time in the Martini household. Ciccio is finishing his homework, Alberto is going to play soccer with some friends, Maria apologizes to her father, and Giulio shows up to make trouble, as usual.
