We meet the very chaotic Martini family at the beginning of a new season of Un medico in Famiglia (A Doctor in the Family). Some things have changed, and some haven't.

Despite the lasagna made by Cettina, everyone in the Martini family is pretty blue about Lele being gone, so they sit around in the living room. Then Annuccia decides she wants to watch a video.

The Martini family is gathered for breakfast, and we learn a bit about the individual family members. There's plenty of chaos, however, and it's a bit much for Grandpa Libero to wrap his head around. At the hospital, where Lele has vacated his office, the staff is waiting for their new boss.

Maria and Rebecca go to the university for the first time. At Lele's old work place, there is a new director. She is going to take some getting used to.

Rebecca is wandering around the campus, where she runs into someone who has his degree in medicine already. She is then joined by Maria. At the health center, the staff meets the new family doctor.

Maria visits the health center where her father used to work, and chats with the staff members she considers to be practically family. At home, there's a visit from Fausto, a friend of the family.

Little Lele, all of a sudden, feels ill. Libero, knowing he had been distracted by talking to Fausto, goes into panic mode. Maria keeps her calm and calls the doctor at the health center to find out what to do.

Grandma Enrica goes to see Libero and her grandchildren. But who knew what she would propose? Libero almost has another heart attack, and has to think fast.

Among the staff at the health center, there is gossip circulating about Doctor Zanin's past job in Milan. Zanin then has a meeting with the new director.

In the Martini household, the news leaks that Mariano will be coming to stay — another headache for Grandpa Libero, who wonders, "How did this happen?" As you watch, be on the lookout for the saying: campa cavallo. Marika explains this expression in a video lesson.

Doctor Zanin begins to be appreciated at work. Maria has a lot of studying to do but is a bit distracted. Then she gets a big surprise right in front of her house.

Guido spends his first night at the Martini residence. Cettina pulls out all the stops to impress him with a special breakfast, but not everyone in the family feels the same way.

Guido Zanin is having a hard time getting out of the house to go to work. He is definitely the center of attention for everyone, and for one person in particular...

Day two for Guido at the Health Center. It doesn't start well. Meanwhile, Grandpa Libero has his hands full at home with Lele Ju and a visit from Fausto.

Guido goes to see an old widow, who isn't a willing patient. Maria shows up at the Health Center as planned.

Grandpa Libero goes over to the university with Fausto, looking for Alberto. Maria doesn't show up at school to pick up Annuccia, and so Annuccia starts walking home by herself. Nowadays kids would never be allowed to leave school unattended.

Grandpa Libero is having a rough day with his family. Ciccio is zoned out playing video games. Alberto comes home talking about his exam, and Maria comes home without Annuccia.

Guido goes over and beyond the requirements for a housecall. Meanwhile, Cettina is bringing out the "good silver" again to impress the doctor from the big city.

Liberto wants to tell Nilde about Alberto but holds his tongue because she has her own problems. Later, with help from Fausto and Lele Ju, Libero is able to find out some more details about the exams.

Ciccio goes out with his un-named friend and we discover what the pupo (kid, puppet, baby) is. At home, Maria is studying with Rebecca, but having a hard time concentrating. When Guido finally walks in the door, there is a little misunderstanding.

Cettina helps Guido get his room in order, and discovers that an assumption she had made about him was false. Grandpa Libero has to go and confront Alberto about his absence from the university.

Alberto and his grandfather have a heart-to-heart talk about what has transpired. The conversation turns to Ciccio, who hasn't come home yet.

Grandpa Libero's bad day just got worse and he is almost at the end of his rope, overwhelmed with responsibility. Maria realizes she has to do more to help out in the family.

At the health center, Mariano is complaining about house calls, and meanwhile, Guido walks in from a house call, himself. He also shows up at home for lunch, unexpectedly. And then, Enrica shows up, as well.

Grandma Enrica is not there to rant about Doctor Zanin's presence in the household. Instead, she has a worrying incident to report, regarding Ciccio. Guido gets involved.

Guido manages to catch up with Ciccio on the train. Ciccio doesn't want to talk, but Guido talks about when he was Ciccio's age and engages him. Back home, everyone is on tenterhooks, hoping Ciccio will come back.

Neither Guido nor Nonno Libero can sleep, so they both gravitate to the kitchen. They start getting comfortable with each other, and one way to do that is dare del tu (to use the familiar form of address).

Now that they have broken the ice, Nonno Libero and Guido get down to talking about important things. Maria and Annuccia spy on them from the stairwell.

Lele Ju isn't feeling well and Guido offers to help. Grandma is observing Maria and Guido with suspicion. Grandpa Libero wants to tell Guido a long story, but it might not be the best moment.

We learn a bit more about Alberto's personal life, as some friends come to see him. Grandpa Libero finally gets to tell his story to Guido, and Annuccia has some pointed questions for her grandma.

Guido is at work and finds himself treating an interesting patient. Grandpa Libero is starting a vegetable garden, and Grandma Enrica shows up.

Libero and Enrica don't see eye to eye, but in addition to that, Enrica makes allusions she doesn't fully explain, and it leads to more incomprehension. Maria takes Lele Junior to the health center and Guido examines him.

Alberto's girlfriend, Gemma, goes to his house with the pretext of a broken cell phone. Guido and Marcello meet up in the morning at a coffee bar and the subject of acting comes up. They have very different memories of a play they were in as kids.

Gemma goes to talk to Adriano about her frustrations with Alberto. Guido has some news to share with Maria about Lele Ju.

Guido tries to talk to the Martini family about Lele Ju's intolerance, but Enrica dominates the conversation and doesn't hide her mistrust of Guido.

Enrica's words must have hit home because Libero has a bad dream involving Guido and Maria... He gets out of bed to check out the situation.

Maria and Guido take Lele Ju and Annuccia for a horse and buggy ride to explain to the kids that Lele Ju will have to eat special food. Libero goes to see his daughter at the restaurant to talk about Enrica's offer.

Alberto goes to pick up Lele Ju at a friend's house. Gemma and Adriano show up and have something important to say to Alberto.

Alberto takes Lele Ju home. Cettina and Lele Ju go to the supermarket, but Guido comes along to help in finding products that are gluten-free. There's an interesting encounter at the yogurt stand.

Finally, Grandpa Libero sees what Grandma Enrica was worried about regarding Guido and Maria. He tries to intervene, discreetly...

Annuncia has some clear ideas about Guido and Maria, and so does Grandpa Libero. He has finally started paying attention and does what he has to do.

Guido and Ciccio move Grandpa Libero's things to the new room. At the university, Rebecca and Maria talk about Guido and exams. Grandpa Libero has a surprise when he goes to the garage to get his car.

Grandpa Libero wants the house to himself to make a phone call, but Cettina keeps up with her ironing and her chit chat. Grandma Enrica goes to Nilde's restaurant where the painters are working.

Nilde's restaurant is a few days away from opening, and she tries out a recipe on her family. Cettina sits at the table with the others, and her judgment matters. Libero goes to the restaurant with Nilde and they talk about Enrica.

Nilde finally confronts her father about Alberto and finds out things she didn't want to hear. Without thinking, she heads for the garage to give Alberto a piece of her mind — cantargliene quattro.

Alberto tells Nilde about Gemma, and their conversation calms down. Libero goes to the health center as a patient, but Guido isn't all that convinced there is something wrong with him. Cettina goes to the supermarket and is approached by the "frog" from the yogurt counter.

Libero is in excellent health, but he sees things differently. The inauguration of Nilde's restaurant is a day away, and Enrica shows up with a chef she would like to hire.

Lele is doing better with his new diet. Annuccia has decided not to eat. Grandma Enrica makes a surprise visit. Libero loses his cool a bit.

Guido discovers why Libero is pretending to be depressed. Annuccia is upset about not having a frog, and Rebbi shows up with an invitation for Maria.

Libero goes to the radio station to try to find a job for Alberto. Guido goes to the garage to talk to Alberto.

Marcello does a pretty bad audition at the radio station. But somehow, things take an unexpected direction. Meanwhile, Libero seems very confused.

Rebbi and Maria don't seem to be on the same wavelength about the trip to London. Back home, there's talk about frogs and a broken dishwasher.

At Nilde's restaurant, it's time for the inauguration, but there are still some missing pieces, and she is getting nervous. Luckily she gets an unexpected and surprising helping hand. Alberto goes to see Irma at the radio just as Marcello is broadcasting his first show as the Frog.

The whole family goes to the opening of Nilde's restaurant, and there are a few surprises.
