TIM is Italy's state controlled mobile phone service. In this madcap ad, we're taken back to the time of Garibaldi, where the great unifier of Italy complains to his mother about her laundry skills. In order to avoid parolacce (dirty words), Garibaldi resorts to a euphemism, which even when translated won't make sense to many of us. What he means in caption 8 is "Like hell."

Tiromancino is a famous pop band from Rome, and this is a song from their self-titled album. Federico Zampaglione, the lead singer, vocalizes about remorse and how it’s best avoided.

The song “L’inquietudine di esistere” [The anxiety of existing] is a new song by the group Tiromancino. The lyrics were written by Fabrizio Tarducci and Federico Zampaglione. Zampaglione also wrote the music.

Tiziano Crudeli is a journalist and a talking head. He's a big supporter of his beloved Milan team, and he often announces the games on television. In this video, in fact, we see him as a wild fan of the club.

With its soft-toned accompaniment and gentle lyrics, "Il regalo più grande" ("The Greatest Gift") sung by Tiziano Ferro, creates a special mood. It was released as a single in 2009 and in that year became fifth on the list of best-selling songs.

"Rosso Relativo" ("Relative Red") is one of Tiziano Ferro's greatest hits, and is the title song from his 2002 album. He uses an interesting series of verbs in the imperfetto, a tense that doesn't always match up with one tense in English. It's all relative!

In Italy, Easter is the time for special, traditional desserts, which, apart from being delicious, were conceived to represent symbols of life and rebirth.

Easter Monday is, traditionally, "picnic day" all over Italy. It's affectionately called Pasquetta (little Easter). This video is from RAI 1, one of the principal TV stations in Italy. At this particular picnic, "primordial" cooking is the protagonist.

Life is Beautiful is the 1997 dramatic comedy, directed by and starring Roberto Benigni. It received three Oscars. The film takes place in a concentration camp in Nazi Germany. Guido (Benigni) in order to protect his son, pretends that the Jewish deportation and the war are just a game, with the final prize: a tank.

Judge Antonio Servilio comes down to ancient Rome from Mediolanum [Roman name for Milan], to fight corruption. The disconcerting message of the film is that little has changed since 71 BC. Romantic entanglements, nepotism, references to current politics, and sexy ladies.

La Strada (The Road) is a 1954 film directed by Federico Fellini, with Anthony Quinn and Giulietta Masina. The film was partly shot at the famous Saltanò Circus, with actors and extras taken from that circus. Fellini changed the name of Anthony Quinn’s character from Saltanò into Zampanò, maybe for copyright reasons. The picture won an Oscar for best foreign film in 1957. It was the year the foreign prize was instituted and it allowed Fellini to break out from national boundaries.

Lecce, in the 1990s. Ignazio is an esteemed judge who has recently returned to the city after working for many years in the north. He meets Lucia again, the woman he has secretly loved since childhood. The woman works as a perfumes representative, but this is just a front. In reality, Lucia has become the right hand woman of the boss Carmine Za, one of the heads of Sacra Corona Unita (United Sacred Heart), the new criminal organization that in 90s reached its apex of power and ferocity.
