This first segment shows CIA officers who consider Olivetti's electronic brain a great threat to American business. The segment also features a flashback to Adriano's childhood in Ivrea, when he was not too eager to learn the ropes.

Giacomo manages to speak with the scholar. When he gets back home, his family is waiting for him with a proposal.

We still don't know much about Marta Rivera's mysterious appointment, just that it was with the chief. A worker from the cheese factory shows up at the police station to give her statement.

We start discovering what kind of person Adriano Olivetti is.

Mario has all kinds of financial problems, and when Giacomo comes after him, Mario thinks that he's been sent by one of his many creditors.

Manara goes to see Casadio, asking for something he knows will be refused to him. He is actually in search of information on Rivera's earlier visit there. Buttafuoco and Barbagallo seem to think there is going to be a surprise party, since an assortment of cheeses was delivered to the police station.

Adriano has some unwelcome news from Paola, his wife. On a nighttime walk above Ivrea, Adriano is threatened by a woman brandishing a gun.

Giacomo and Mario become acquainted in the back of Giacomo's chauffeur-driven car, but Mario is puzzled, and worried, about the talk of reincarnation. His other worries involve creditors.

Luca goes to see signora Martini in the hospital. When he gets back to the police station there is a secret ballot going on. Caterina shows up at the end.

There is an injured person in the woods in need of aid and Adriano doesn't hesitate. A birthday party is going on in the villa.

Mario goes to visit Giacomo at home and his eyes light up. Giacomo is very happy about the visit, but his mother, a bit less.

Caterina talks to Luca in his office. Toscani brings a fax that looks more like a newspaper or a bed sheet, it's so long. Luca hatches a plan that involves Ada, Toscani, and himself. Ada's new guest seems to like her!
