Docente di astronomia all'Università di Trieste per quasi trent’anni, Margherita Hack è stata la prima donna italiana a dirigere l'Osservatorio Astronomico di Trieste. Nel momento in cui Margherita si insediò come direttrice, l'Osservatorio astronomico si trovava in una condizione di isolamento. La Hack lavorò per rafforzare l'istituzione, bandì nuovi concorsi, attrasse giovani ricercatori, organizzò meeting di livello internazionale. Grazie a lei, le donne si avvicinarono al mondo della scienza, frequentando i suoi corsi universitari.

During the filming of his movie, De Sica leaves the safety of the basilica just once and is caught and questioned by a Nazi General about why the film is taking so long to be shot.
